Fried Instant Noodle

Time seems to be so limited these days. I'm exhausted. Not to mention about new recipes, cuz I'm lazy to think of one. Endded up, I just go back to some old one-pot-dishes or simple fried stuffs. Fried instant noodle was our dinner the other day when I came back late. Simple and yet satisfying.

Fried Instant Noodle
Serves 2

Ingredients:

2 pcs of Vit's plain instant noodle
1/4 of a small cabbage, sliced thinly
14 small prawns, shelled
choy sum, trimmed
3 clove of garlic, chopped
1 tbsp of chili paste
3 tbsp of light soy sauce
1 tbsp of oyster sauce
half tbsp of dark soy sauce
2 eggs
3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil

Instructions:

1. To prepare the noodle, just add the noodles (x2 pcs) to boiling water and cook for around 3 minutes or until soft. Then, rinse in fresh water and drain.

2. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a wok, and cook the scramble egg. Set aside.

3. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in the same wok, saute garlic till fragrant. Add in prawns, cabbage and choy sum to stir fry. Add a tbsp of oyster sauce and 30ml of water. Let the vegetables saute for a while until it's cook.

4. Pour in the noodle. Stir in dark soy sauce, light soy sauce and chilli paste to mix well. Add in the scramble egg, and continue to stir fry for 3 minutes.

Market City Cafe @ Market City

One afternoon during the lunch break, sister-in-law drove us to Market City for a simple lunch. We went to Market City Cafe which is operated by a Vietnamese.

We've been anticipating to try the fish & chips in Australia. We wanted some fresh fish fillets, not like the frozen dory fish we have in Malaysia. Hence, we ordered 2 sets of fish meal to share among 3 of us.

Grilled fish is definitely a better choice you want to taste the original flavor. So, here's the grilled fish with salad and chips... The "small" serving costs A$8.20, but it turned out to be a huge serving! I also got to taste the red fresh beetroot for the first time. It's sweet!

We ordered another set of deep fried fish and chips. According to SIL, these were Basa fish fillets. Deep sea fish is always oily. Hubby and I just tried a little bit and before we can finish them we were full. Luckily, we just opted for 2 sets, otherwise, we really couldn't finish up our fish & chips. No regrets for this simple meal. :)

Antico Caffe @ East Perth

On the first day of our visit to Perth, brother-in-law brought us to Antico Caffe in East Perth. It is a restaurant that serves Italian food.

This area used to be a slum last time. Over the years, the place have evolved into a new area for people to hang out. There are quite a number of town house apartments near this restaurant.

Italian fine dining in Perth has improved in the recent years. Antico Caffe is one of them. According to brother-in-law, this restaurant is very famous, one of the top three among all the Italian restaurant in Perth. They implement the "BYO" concept, which means you're welcomed to bring your own wine when dining in.

Weekend is the peak period for the restaurant, but during the weekdays, only few tables are occupied. We went there on Friday night, so it was packed. Luckily sister-in-law booked a table in advance. Otherwise, we got to queue up for a table.

Brother-in-law and sister-in-law ordered quite a number of food to share among 4 adults and a toddler.

Castellana pizza costs A$19.90. Ingredients include whole peeled tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, bacon, chicken, spicy Italian sausage, ham and onion.

This pizza was absolutely delicious. It's baked under wood fire. And they have one guy solely in charge for the pizza.

Calamari Fritti costs A$24.90. The tender squid rings were lightly fried until golden brown and served with their special tartar sauce and chips. The calamari rings were humongous. One ring is already enough for me.

Filetto Al Porto, the finest baby beef scotch fillet, grilled to perfection and served with a sensational balsamic and port glaze dressing. It costs A$28.90.

I don't take beef, but this is an exception to me. I took a couple of bites, and I found that it didn't have the "Moo" smell at all. :P

Involtini Di Maccheroni. This is their specialty. Their homemade macaroni are tossed in napoletana sauce, enveloped in slices of eggplant and topped with baked ricotta. This is an outstanding macaroni dish. You'll get 3 rolls of them in a serving. It tasted fabulous. I didn't know macaroni can be so tasty until I tried this.

Misto Mare Alla Griglia, a combination of freshest seafood char grilled and served with chips. The seafood platter consists of fish fillet, scallops, prawns, mussels, and jumbo squids. The seafood platter just normal. In fact, I found it's too salty to my liking.

The meal cost for about A$140 (about RM360++). Thanks to brother-in-law for the treat.

Air Asia's Pre-booked International Meal

When hubby booked the Air Asia ticket online, he ordered the international meal for two. So here it is the 2 sets of Big Bruce's Smokey BBQ Chicken, served with Kit Kat and mineral water.

The tender boneless chicken meat was marinated and then barbecued to perfection. It's served with Big Bruce's secret spicy BBQ sauce, seasoned roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables like corns, cucumber and capsicum. Anyway, the food tasted ordinary, nothing special. In fact, it was too oily and spicy for our supper during the flight.

Flying Off to Western Australia!

You must be wondering why there's no updates on this food blog for such a long period. What are we busy at? Thanks to NKOTB's concern for my recent "disappearance".

Life's hectic since end of April. We'll be flying off to Perth this afternoon. Due to the busy schedule to shop for the trip necessities, some arrangements to be made, and also my detoxification program, I missed an invited food review from Criz. Hopefully there will be a gathering session soon. :)

We'll be back on 17th May. Stay tuned for the upcoming Australia food reviews.

Lé Boss Cafe & Restaurant @ Sungai Petani

A couple of weeks ago, I did a search on the list of restaurants in Sungai Petani. I found some positive reviews on Lé Boss which is located at Lagenda Height. So without the second thought, we drove to this place.

Business is good on that Saturday noon. We could see majority of the tables were occupied by Malay customers. So, no doubt, they serve only halal food. By looking at their business license, we confirmed it is owned by a Malay guy.

Compared with other restaurants that operated by Malay, this can be an outstanding example. They apply modern style of interior design. Aquariums are displayed at most of the corners. Besides, you can see the owner's personal collection like chess sets, tea cups, golf stick, bicycles are hanged on the wall. This restaurant consist of 2 shops that's been colorfully painted.

However, talk about the service provided, we were quite disappointed. The waiter couldn't understand English, so we had to order in Malay language. Furthermore, we observed quite a number of spelling mistakes and grammatical error on their menu.

We ordered fruit spritzer each. Hubby had Sunny Sparkle (orange spritzer), while I opted for Yellow Submarine (mango spritzer).

This is my main dish, the pan grilled chicken breast in mushroom sauce with 2 side lines. Surprisingly, it was served on hot sizzling plate. Eh? Where's the side dishes?

Don't be surprised, the fries and Italy salad was only served 10 minutes after the chicken. The food is just average. Nothing special.

Well, at least mine was not so bad. My poor hubby had to wait for at least 25 minutes for his Chicken chop with 2 side lines. Luckily we were not there to celebrate any special occasion, otherwise, how to be romantic?

Hubby's order. Chicken chop with potato salad and chicken pasta. Hubby commented that the chicken was kind of "processed" food.

Price wise, the meal just cost for RM37.00 included of 10% service charge.
