Make to Order Breakfast, Waroeng of Jeeva Klui Resort

I enjoyed the every moment through out the stay at Jeeva Klui Resort. I always look forward to dine at their "Waroeng" - the open air cafe. We chose our favorite dining table by the pool. We loved to enjoyed sea side view, the fresh breeze and of course the make to order breakfast. Fabulous. Oh, my tummy is growling now while writing this post.

While seated, a glass of fresh fruit juice of your choice and coffee/ tea will be served. You can select from the breakfast menu ranges from Tropical fruits, freshly baked pastries, mixed fruit yogurt with assorted cereals, Indonesian breakfast, pancake/French toast/waffles and all kinds of egg breakfasts.

If you are an egg lover, you will love almost all of the breakfast as we do. The omelete, the sunny side up or the egg Benedict that served with their daily potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, sausage and ham will never disappoint you. Their daily potatoes can be pan-fried baby potatoes, hash brown or potato fritter. We ordered the Eggs Benedict and Orange French Toast twice. Just imagine how delicious it was.

The Indonesian breakfast that we ordered, the Mie Goreng (fried noodle) and Telur Dadar Lombok (fried rice with side dishes) tasted yummy too. It contained the special taste of Indonesian cuisine, that is the acceptable level of spiciness.

Let's have a look on what we had taken over the 3 days.  Enjoy!

Tropical Fruits Platter

Jeeva Klui Omelet - Filled with beef ham, spinach, mushrooms, and cheese served with grilled tomato, mushrooms, daily potatoes and chicken sausage.

Eggs Benedict - 2 poached eggs on brioche with spinach and beef ham. Served with mushrooms, daily tomatoes and potatoes. We got the baby potatoes.

Eggs Benedict as well, but with the potato in hash brown form.

Egg roll - Egg omelet rolled with pita bread and choice of chicken or beef sausage

Mie Goreng - Stir fried egg noodles with vegetables, prawn crackers and topped with fried egg

Telur Dadar Lombok - Egg omelet with shallots, garlic, chili and tomato, served with fried rice and sambal sauce.

2 sunny side up with choice of roasted beef ham, served with grilled tomato and potatoes of the day

2 sunny side up with choice of chicken sausage, served with grilled tomato and potatoes of the day

Orange French Toast with grilled banana, whipped cream and maple syrup

Salted Chicken From Aun Kheng Lim, Ipoh

If you happened to drop by Ipoh for Lou Wong bean sprout chicken rice, you can walk over to another street for the Aun Kheng Lim salted chicken. You can only take away since they don't have dine in service. That’s what we did when we dine at Aun Kee for chicken hor fun, which is next door to the Lou Wong.

I found a few slices of Dong Quai aka Angelica sinensis inserted inside the free range chicken’s abdomen. It is wrapped up in a few layers of parchment paper and then baked in salt. So, the outcome is a herbal infused and salty fragrant chicken. Each chicken cost RM17. The portion is just enough for 2 to serve with steamed rice.

To make up a balanced meal, I serve the it with chicken rice and sliced Japanese cucumber. It is a simple and yet satisfying lunch.

Bali Hai Seafood Market

Bali Hai Seafood Market

Website: http://balihaiseafood.com/

Bali Hai Seafood Market is a place located along the Gurney Drive Penang. They serve dim sum for breakfast and seafood for dinner. A few hut shelters were set-up at the side. It's was so enjoyable to have our dim sum breakfast in one of the shelter. What made me happy was the delicious dim sum that hubby chose from the dim sum array. All suits my taste buds. Both of us left the restaurant with satisfying tummies.

My favorite crispy prawn roll served with Mayonnaise. A fried dim sum that I used to like these recent years.

Guo-Tie or Pot Stickers served with ginger in black vinegar. These are the well-done guo-tie. It's in  my to-do list now.

Prawn dumpling or Har Gao. The prawns are fresh and juicy.

Braised chicken feet with spices. I seldom take chicken feet when dine out. So, most of it went to his stomach. :)

Minced pork and crab stick in seaweed.

Pork dumpling or Siew Mai. It tastes average.

Hai Boey Seafood 海尾海鲜

Phone: 013-4881114, 019-4791114
Open daily 5.30pm - 11pm

One evening after work, I thought of having some seafood. So, we drove all the way to Hai Boey Seafood again. We were their first customer of the day. Yes! Our food was served in few minutes time.
Spinach with Salted Duck Egg and Century Egg 上汤梘菜

Fried Flat Noodle with Gravy, portion for 1 cost MYR4

This is not as good as their fried emperor noodle. It's lack of fragrant smell from the frying process. The fried emperor noodle suits my taste better.

Big Prawns Stir Fried With Dried Shrimp

This dish has nothing special, except the prawns are fleshy and succulent. Also, it is not as spicy as per the waiter's description.

Mantis Prawn, 280gm cost MYR12

This is my favorite mantis prawn in Kam Heong sauce. It's crispy and fragrant. A very appealing dish to go with rice.

Meat Crabs Stir-Fried with Spices, 560gm cost MYR28

A dish that we wouldn't miss, the crabs. The crabs were steamed before stir-frying with spice. Love the fragrant smell from the curry leaves.

This is a nice place to dine in for seafood as you can enjoy the sea breeze and sea view. This round we just ordered a few simple dishes which we haven't tried before. If you want to know more about the Hai Boey's signature dishes, click here

Visiting Strawberry Moment is a must when we go to Cameron Highlands. Enjoying yummy desserts or drinks in a cool ventilated ambiance is so relaxing. Relax, yes, that's the purpose we planned the short holiday anyway. We felt so refreshing in that 2 days. No worries and no stress. Cool...

This time, we went there after our lunch. We just order yogurt and hot chocolate. The Tri-color Fruit Yogurt looked nice, but it's too sweet.

This is nothing special, just the normal hot chocolate. :)

Uncle Chow Kopitiam @ Cameron Highlands

Uncle Chow Kopitiam
Address: C2-G-01 Block C2, Taman Royal Lily, 39000 Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia.
Tel: 6012-205 2778

There's no one eatery cafe in Cameron Highlands that you can find a typical Cameron Highland's food. The famous food there is either steamboat or strawberry desserts. We've tried most of them. So, for the recent trip, we went to hunt for some "homey" food instead.

Uncle Chow Kopitiam is one of the highly recommended eatery at Tanah Rata. The cafe is operated by a retired couple from KL. Here you can find a variety of home cooked food. Their concept is like the Old Town White Coffee style, but they have a wider range of better quality food. Aunt Chow is a good cook. All the food is home cooked by her. She makes yam cake, curry puffs, kaya, all types of Malaysia street food and desserts. I'm so amazed by the cleanliness of this place.

Hubby opted for the popular nasi lemak. He commented that this is a very satisfying breakfast. The serving is generous and most importantly, the rice cooked with fresh coconut milk is really tasty.

I tried the prawn noodle which suits my taste buds very much. The big bowl of prawn noodle consist of prawns, chicken strips, hard-boiled egg, fish cake, convulvulus and noodle in flavorful prawn soup.

We also ordered toast and half-boiled egg to share.

We'll definitely revisit this place.

The Famous Cendol?

Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul

Strategically located in front of Komtar, this café has caught our eye for quite some time now. I thought it would be a good idea to enjoy a bowl of famous cendol under a cozy environment. So, given the opportunity to visit Komtar yesterday, we went to have some dessert there. However, after my first visit, I want to pull back my initial thought. The bowl of cendol and ice-kacang were definitely far behind compared to the one sells at hawker stall in Penang Road. The quality is bad. They prepare the dessert just to fulfill customer’s order, not to satisfy customer’s taste buds.

Hubby opted for the durian cendol, but was told not available, so he changed his order to white coffee cendol. The original cendol is supposed to be served in thick and fragrant coconut milk. But this one, the white coffee is thin and watery. We couldn’t even smell the white coffee fragrant.

I chose to have the ice kacang instead. It was not my cup of tea. I just manage to take a couple of sips, that it! Even hubby commented that it tasted weird.

Definitely dissapointed. This is going to be my first and my last visit.

Sawara Restaurant @ Pulau Tikus, Penang

Restoran SAWARA
Noodle and Surimi
393, Jalan Burmah, Penang.
604-226 0516
Business Hour: 11am to 10pm
Non Halal

Initially when this restaurant started their operations, they serve steamboat and yong tau foo. But they stopped serving yong tau foo since a year ago. So now, you can either dine in for their steamboat, noodles, or some of their fish delicacies.

Sawara Noodles @ RM5.50

The pan meen alike noodles are served in dark soy sauce, top with mushroom, minced pork and choy sum, and garnished with chopped spring onion. Initially I thought this was their home made noodles, but the waitress proved that I was wrong.

Fish fillet soup with add on fish balls @ RM25

The soup base is kind of milky with very mild of black vinegar fragrant. I discovered that certain amount of chopped water chestnuts were added to the soup. The fish fillets in the soup was not much, but just nice for 2 of us. Between the fish fillet and fish balls, I prefer the latter. As you can see, their home made fish balls are not in round shape. In fact, it is made into flexi-shapes. It is not smooth as normal fish ball. Even though it is rough, but I just love the texture. I can taste the springiness and freshness.

Without this chili sauce, the meal will not be perfect. Their home made chili sauce with white sesame and Chinese parsley, hmm...sweet and spicy! Love it!

SOHO Country House @ Autocity

SOHO Country House
1832, Jalan Perusahaan, Highway Auto City, 13600 Penang, Malaysia.
Tel: +604-507 0079

Housed in a English style building, SOHO Country house is not a new place in Autocity. In fact, it is a popular bar to hang out for drinks. We don't quite enjoy night life,  so we just dined in for a simple dinner.
Pineapple juice RM7.80++ and mint tea RM4.30++

SOHO's Chicken Burger, RM7.80

A succulent chicken burger, lovingly marinated and served in sesame seed bun. The bun's toasted with butter, nice. Side lines included salad and French fries. This is one of the value for money meal. Not only that, it's yummy too.

Chicken Cordon Bleu, RM16

Gold medal fried chicken breast, stuffed with turkey ham, cheese, and served with crisp green side salad and French fries. Don't be fooled by the chicken, the portion is easily fill up your hungry tummy.

After the main dish, our stomach were full. No more space for desserts :P . We'll definitely go back for its famous Shephard's pie and other valued meal soon.

Kowloon Hainan Chicken Rice @ Yummy Cottage

We got free vouchers from Criz Bon Appetite's 2nd anniversary. One of them was a free chicken rice meal at Kowloon Hainan Chicken Rice. The stall is located at Yummy Cottage, a cafe that directly opposite to Red Rock Hotel, Macalister Road, Penang.

A plate of "Pak Cham Kai" was ordered by me. The chicken was served on a bed of bean sprouts. I purposely ordered this to taste its original flavor. It was good, not too oily, but juicy. Their "Pak Cham Kai" is different from other place as it is topped with their home made dark sauce. The sauce has been modified to suit their customer's taste buds.

Hubby chose to have their roasted chicken. Same as the "Pak Cham Kai", it is topped with dark sauce too. It's good to go with a plate of rice.

The chicken rice is cooked with garlic, just nice. But, I can't smell the ginger fragrant. If enough ginger paste is added, the rice will be perfect! :)

Xiang Ling Coffee House @ Parkson Ria Sungai Petani

Xiang Ling Coffee House 香林坊素食
Address:No. C23, Lorong 8, Taman Sejati Indah
Tel: 04-4316919
Vegetarian

Housed in Parkson Ria Sungai Petani, Xiang Ling Coffee house is a family-friendly place to dine in. It has garnered many customer from the shoppers and workers in the shopping complex. Xiang Ling has a wide varieties of vegetarian food ranging from economy rice, noodles, burger, sushi to Tai Chow. For the economy rice, you can choose white rice, brown rice, pumpkin rice and tomato rice to go with their ready made vegetarian dishes.

Sugar Cane Juice RM1.50 and Ice Nutmeg Juice @ RM1.00

Vegetarian Clay Pot Noodles @ RM3.80

The clay pot noodles isn't bad. There is room for improvement for the deep-fried yee foo noodles. They have to think of a better cooking method, so that the noodles is not so chewy, but springy..

Thai Curry Fish Rice @ RM4.80

Thai curry rice set is quite flavorful and the vegetarian fish fillet serving is generous. ( 4 pieces in total) .The curry rice is served with salad in sweet and sour sauce with pineapple, cucumber and tomato. If you don't like strong curry powder taste, you are advised not to order this dish.

Vegetarian Ham Burger RM3.50

Does it look like vegetarian burger? It has vegetarian meat patty, lettuce and a piece of cheese. It's smaller in size compared to Mc D's burger. Taste wise, it's just ok.

Boston 又一城 @ Auto-City

Boston 又一城
Address: 1808-1809C Jalan Perusahaan, Auto North Highway.
Tel: 04-5084296

Boston Hongkie Kopitiam is located in Autocity, opposite of Swensen's. It is one of the few food outlets that we haven't tried before. So, this time we decided to give it a try. While awaiting for our food to be served, hubby took some photos on the restaurant's interior decor.

Red Bean Cendol @ RM4.95 and Ice Honey Lemon @ RM5.95

Red Bean Cendol is recommended as per the menu, but it tastes so so only. Instead of the original coconut milk, the drink is modified with soy bean milk. Honestly, soy bean milk does not bring out the taste. It's far behind the traditional cendol.

House Noodles 又一城车仔面 @ RM9.95

Chinese noodles served with radish, pineapple cubes, sliced chicken, deep-fried bean curd, in their spicy House sauce. This noodles was not a bad choice. I quite like the taste. Thumbs up for their spicy sauce, which made the noodles more flavorful. Recommended!

Hot Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Drumstick @RM13.95

The nasi lemak was another disappoinment. The rice serving is very small and with very little coconut fragrance. The chicken thigh was over-fried too. No oumpphh! Perhaps we should have ordered other food instead.
